NECBS 2019 Recap

The NECBS had a tremendously successful meeting at McGill University, Oct 4-5, 2019. Attendance was strong, and the papers ranged broadly across chronology and areas of focus. A particular highlight were the keynote talks. On Friday, Kennetta Hammond Perry (De Montfort University) spoke on “Archives of Imperiled Black Life and the Architecture of State Power in Postcolonial Britain”; Matthew Dziennik (United States Naval Academy) closed the proceedings on Saturday evening with his presentation “A New Heroic Age? War, Empire, and Gaelic Scotland, 1746-1815.” We offer our sincere thanks to Profs. Perry and Dziennik and to all the presenters, chairs and attendees. Of course, none of this could have happened without the hard work, resourcefulness and great collegiality of the Local Arrangements team at McGill, led by Elizabeth Elbourne and incoming NECBS Vice President Brian Lewis. Special thanks to our new President, Caroline Shaw, for putting together the program and to Jen Purcell for keeping the numbers in order. We look forward to seeing you all at NECBS 2020!
