The Department of History at Brown University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure- track position, at the Assistant Professor level, in Modern Britain/Britain and the World since 1750. All subfields will be considered.

The successful candidate will have defended the Ph.D. thesis by the time of appointment. The department places a high priority on research excellence, high-quality teaching, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community.

Interested candidates should speak to their ability to contribute to each of these three areas in a letter of application. Please also submit a curriculum vitae, and an article or chapter length writing sample via Interfolio. Additional materials, including three letters of reference, may be requested after an initial review of the applications.  Review of applications will begin October 3, 2022. The Department of History is keenly interested in diversifying its faculty. Candidates from groups historically underrepresented in higher education are encouraged to apply. To assure full consideration applicants should submit their materials by that date.
